After receiving his bachelor’s degree from UC Davis, David started his professional career as an English and Drama teacher at El Camino High School here in Sacramento. A few years later David was recruited by a close friend who managed the Northern California Horace Mann/Teachers Insurance Company sales office. This was the beginning of his 35+ year career in the insurance industry.
Dave still uses his teaching skills to help clients with their insurance needs. “My sales process is simple: Ask questions, listen, discover exposures, provide knowledge of the products available, and let my clients make informed purchasing decisions. I don’t sell. I educate, offer appropriate solutions, and let my clients decide how to dedicate their premium dollars.” Showing his commitment to this industry and his clients, Dave went on to earn his CIC (Certified Insurance Counselor) industry designation. Maintaining this designation requires hundreds of hours of course instruction and testing.
As an insurance broker Dave enjoys the opportunity to research, market, and provide a wide array of products for his business and personal lines clients. Dave is proud of the relationships he has developed over the years with his clients, a number he has retained for over 30.
For the past 34 years Dave has been an active member of The Kiwanis Club of Greater Sacramento, including accepting multiple terms as club president. He was elected Cal-Nev-Ha Division 7 Lt. Governor back in 1990 and was responsible for managing the needs of 12 other Kiwanis Clubs in the area. When not working or participating in Kiwanis service projects Dave and his wife Jolynn teach First Aid/CPR and Wilderness First Aid as volunteer trainers for the local Girl Scout Council. Dave also teaches backpacking and holds the Master Educator designation for the Leave No Trace organization. Youth and the outdoors is very important to the Canady family. Dave is an Eagle Scout, the son of an Eagle Scout, father of an Eagle Scout and father to a daughter who earned her Girl Scout Gold Award.
